Routing Constraints and Challenges
Land features and land use in the project areas had a significant influence on where preliminary route options were positioned. Project areas are within rural agricultural areas (Special Areas No. 2, 3 and/or 4) and land use is mainly grazing pasture and agricultural cultivation. While relatively sparesely populated, residences occure throughout the project areas.
Route options were identified to minimize impacts on people and agriculture. Other constraints on route selection included several lakes, wetlands and creeks. There are multiple historical sites, reservoirs and evironmentally significant areas.
Intensive oil and gas activity occurs throughout the area, including many well sites and pipelines. Avoinding impacts to these facilities represented a significant challenge.
