Impact of Feedback on Route Selection
|
|
Concerns and issues identified during consultations are extremely important to us. Feedback was used to evaluate and compare impacts of prelimiary route options. In some locations, new prelimiary route options were developed as a result of this feedback and discussed with those affected.
Some of the concerns raised during consultations can be mitigated, while others cannot. We assess the nature of the concern, the specific circumstances involved and our ability to respond to, and mitigate, associated impacts. This information is used to identify preferred and alternative routes with the least overall impact.
To date, a wide variety of concerns have been identified, but the vast majority of these can be grouped into two braod categories: impacts on residences and impacts on agricultural operations.
Impacts on Residences
When we asked people in the Hanna area to tell us what factors were most important to them for determining the locations of transmission lines, the most commonly identified factor was, by far, the distance to residences.
We selected prelimiary route options for each project in an effort to avoid homes. Concerns raised by residents about the proximity of the route to their home were considered key factors for identifying the preferred and alternative options.
Impacts on Agriculture Operations
Impacts on agriculture operations were another key factor that influenced the selection of preferred and alternative routes. During personal consultations, concerns related to agriculture were identified more freequently than any other type of concern. Agriculture is the dominant land use in the area and we are committed to working with landowners to mitigate their concerns wherever possible.
