Overview
The Rowley Transmission Project is part of the larger Hanna Region Transmission Development.
The Alberta Utilities Commission approved the expansion of the existing Rowley substation on May 17, 2011 and the construction of about 10 kilometres (km) of double circuit transmission line from the Rowley substation extending west to connect with an existing transmission line began in November of the same year.
Public Involvement
Consultation activities for the Rowley Transmission Project began in June 2010. An open house was held in the Hamlet of Rowley on June 17, 2010.
This was followed by 65 personal consultations with individuals located in the vicinity of the preliminary routes. After the prelimiary routes consultations, an alternative route alignment was developed and 41 landowners and 10 occupants were consulted. After further refinement to the alternative route and consultation with the directly affected landowner a proposed route for the project was identified.
ATCO Electric submitted a Facilities Application to the Alberta Utilities Commission on November 22, 2010 and received approval for that application on May 17, 2011:
ATCO Electric's AUC application for Rowley Transmission Project.
